1. Active "Plug and Play" Power Delivery
The defining characteristic of this cradle is its seamless charging integration. A high-quality charging connector (such as Lightning, USB-C, or a Qi wireless coil) is molded permanently into the base of the cradle.
The Plug-and-Play Setup: The cable extending from the base of the holder ends in a traditional 12V/24V cigarette lighter adapter (cig-plug). You simply mount the cradle, plug it into your car's power socket, and it is instantly operational.
The Modular Cord: On modern Brodit active holders, the 12V cigarette adapter can actually be disconnected from the main cable. This leaves you with a standard USB-A or USB-C plug that can be inserted directly into your vehicle’s factory USB port if you prefer to skip the 12V socket.
2. Custom, Tailored Fit
Brodit does not make "one-size-fits-all" cradles. Each active holder is precision-machined from heavy-duty, high-grade black ABS plastic to match the exact physical dimensions of specific smartphone models (e.g., a specific iPhone variant).
Case Compatibility: They offer both "bare device" models (for naked phones) and adjustable versions with adjustable side-wings to accommodate phones inside protective cases.
3. Integrated Tilt-Swivel Mechanism
The back of the cradle features a heavy-duty mechanical tilt-swivel joint. This allows the driver to:
Tilt the screen up to $22^\circ$ in any direction to eliminate blinding sun glare.
Swivel the phone completely between portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal) orientations, which is ideal when using your phone for GPS navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps.
4. Effortless One-Handed Docking
Because the charging tip is fixed perfectly at the bottom of the cradle, you do not have to fumble around with loose wires every time you get into the car. You simply slide the phone downward into the custom plastic channels, and it automatically connects and begins charging instantly.
The Brodit Two-Part System (How it Mounts)
To use a Brodit cradle, you typically pair it with a vehicle-specific dashboard mount:
The ProClip (Sold Separately): A small, vehicle-specific plastic mounting platform that clips directly into the seams of your specific car's dashboard without drilling holes or damaging the trim.
The Active Holder (The Cradle): You screw the tilt-swivel backing of your plug-and-play charging cradle directly onto that ProClip platform.
This creates a rock-solid, vibration-free setup that looks beautifully integrated into the car interior, yet remains entirely removable without leaving a trace if you ever sell the vehicle.
