Charging Cradles

Brodit hardwire charging cradle

Key Features & Mechanical Design

1. Hidden, Pro-Tier Wire Integration

The core purpose of this cradle is to eliminate cabin clutter. The wiring harness extends from the bottom of the cradle and drops directly behind the vehicle dashboard panels. It taps directly into the car’s electrical power source—usually an ignition-switched 12V or 24V feed—ensuring the phone charges safely while the car is running.

2. Device-Specific Precision Fit

Brodit machines each hardwire cradle from heavy-duty, shatterproof black ABS plastic. Rather than clamping onto your phone with generic spring-loaded arms, the cradle is custom-molded to match the precise dimensions of a specific phone model (such as a specific Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy variant). This structural accuracy keeps the device perfectly locked in place, avoiding rattling or vibration even over harsh pavement.

3. Integrated Mechanical Tilt-Swivel

The rear of the holder contains a sturdy tilt-swivel ball joint. This mechanism provides full flexibility to adjust your view:

  • Glare Reduction: It tilts up to $22^\circ$ in any direction to help redirect blinding sunlight away from the phone screen.

  • Orientation Control: It allows the driver to seamlessly rotate the phone between vertical (portrait) for messaging or calls and horizontal (landscape) for mapping applications like Google Maps or Waze.

Technical Specifications & Power Delivery

A hardwired Brodit setup includes an inline charging brick hidden under the dash that converts car battery voltage to standard smartphone limits.

  • Dual-Voltage Compatibility: The charging module natively accepts both 12V (passenger cars) and 24V (heavy commercial trucks and HGVs) power networks.

  • Safety Isolation: To protect both the vehicle and the docked phone, the power line features an inline safety fuse enclosure to prevent short-circuiting or electrical surges.

  • Quick Charge Capabilities: Depending on the model variant, modern fixed-installation holders are outfitted with updated USB-C connectors or proprietary pins supporting Qualcomm Quick Charge standards.

How It Installs (The Two-Part Standard)

Brodit utilizes a modular, multi-part assembly logic to ensure a completely non-destructive setup:

  1. The ProClip Vehicle Platform (Sold Separately): A vehicle-specific plastic base plate engineered to snap cleanly into the natural dashboard seams of your exact vehicle model. It installs firmly without requiring screws or drilling into your dash.

  2. The Hardwire Holder Mounting: The backplate of the hardwired tilt-swivel joint is screwed down onto the ProClip plate.

  3. The Power Hookup: The power wire drops through the dashboard panels down into the internal fuse box. The ground line connects to the car chassis, while the positive line splices into an ignition-switched circuit. Because this step involves electrical tapping, professional installation by an auto-electrician is highly recommended.
