Prozor Lights and Beacons

is a popular choice for budget-conscious operators, but there are critical factors to consider regarding their hardware and legal compliance. Here is a review of how Prozor lights and beacons measure up to Chapter 8 requirements.

360° Visibility (The Core Requirement)

Chapter 8 states that any vehicle stopping on the highway for works purposes must be equipped with at least one amber warning beacon (or a light bar) visible through 360°.

  • Prozor Performance: Most Prozor beacons (like the 24W or 54W LED models) feature a circular or bar design that provides full 360° coverage.

  • The Verdict: If mounted on the highest point of the vehicle without obstruction (like ladders or roof racks), a single Prozor beacon can fulfill the basic visibility requirement. However, for larger vans or HGVs, you may need two beacons (one at each end) to ensure they are visible from all angles.

The "ECE R65" Standard (The Legal Hurdle)

This is where many "entry-level" lights like Prozor often fall short. Official Chapter 8 guidelines for high-speed roads (motorways and dual carriageways) require beacons to be ECE R65 approved. This certification ensures the light is bright enough for daylight use and flashes at a specific frequency.

  • Prozor Performance: Many Prozor lights are advertised as "Super Bright" and "IP67 Waterproof," but they often lack the official ECE R65 or ECE R10 (EMC) certification markings on the lens.

  • The Verdict: While Prozor lights are excellent for off-road use, private sites, or low-speed urban roads, using them on major trunk roads or motorways could technically leave you non-compliant if they aren't R65 certified.

Flash Patterns and Color

Chapter 8 is very strict: lights must be Amber. Any hint of blue is illegal for non-emergency vehicles, and white strobes should generally be avoided as primary warning lights.

  • Prozor Performance: Prozor units usually offer 7 to 10 flash modes. To stay compliant, you should use a simple, rotating or steady-flash pattern. Avoid "staccato" or "crazy" patterns that can confuse or distract other drivers.

  • The Verdict: Prozor’s amber LEDs are typically the correct "Highway Amber" hue, which is perfect for meeting the color requirement.

Mounting & Installation

Prozor Performance: Prozor specializes in magnetic mounts and cigarette lighter plugs.
Pros: Great for temporary compliance (e.g., a sub-contractor using a personal van).
